Australian National Dictionary Centre
The Australian National Dictionary Centre was established in 1988 after the publication of the first edition of the Australian National Dictionary. It is jointly funded by ANU and Oxford University Press. The Centre conducts research into all aspects of Australian English, especially the history of Australian words, and it edits the Oxford range of Australian Dictionaries.
At a ceremony at the Dictionary Centre on 30 November, a new agreement was signed to continue the research of the Centre for a further 5 years. The agreement was signed by Professor Toni Makkai, Dean of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, and Mr Peter van Noorden, Managing Director OUP Australia.
This ceremony also marked the retirement of Dr Bruce Moore as director of the Centre. From January 2012, Dr Sarah Ogilvie, at present Alice Tong Sze Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, takes over as director.
